Bordering Countries of Seychelles
Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands located in the Indian Ocean, northeast of Madagascar. It is bordered by the African nations of Mauritius and Comoros, both of which are located to the southwest. Mauritius is a former British colony with a population of 1.3 million people, and it consists of a number of small islands in addition to the main island. It has a vibrant economy based on tourism, finance, and textiles. Comoros is an independent nation with a population of 800 thousand people, located just south of Madagascar. It is made up primarily of four main islands and several smaller ones. Its economy is based largely on agriculture and fishing as well as some tourism. To the east lies Somalia, which has been embroiled in civil war for decades and whose economy has suffered greatly as a result. The country’s population stands at about 15 million people and it relies heavily on fishing for sustenance. Finally, to the north lies Tanzania, with its population estimated at 57 million people. Its economy is largely dependent on agriculture but it also has some important mineral resources such as gold and diamonds that contribute to its economic growth.
